THE TOWN OF MAPLE NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2025
RECYCLING/SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL
For current information about what can and cannot be recycled – the specifications are stricter than you might think! – please check the town’s website. Garbage cards ($30) are available (by check only) at Maple Hill Feed & Farm or from the attendant at the dump with a check or cash. Please avoid loose change.
We are no longer able to dispose of scrap metal.
TAX COLLECTIONS
All real estate tax collections are to be sent to the County Treasurer’s office in Superior by the deadlines on the tax bill.
DOG LICENSES
In compliance with Chapter 174 of the State Statutes, dog licenses must be purchased for all dogs, and dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations. The form can be found online at https://maple.wi.gov and at the Maple Post Office.
SNOW PLOWING
We continue to use a prepaid plan for snow plowing driveways. Applications are available at the Maple Post Office as well as on the town website. Your driveway must meet the conditions stated in the application.
HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
If you need to install a culvert on Town right of way, please contact Town Foreman Roger Colby (715-363-2504) first, to assure proper size and placement.
BUILDING PERMITS
For new construction, additions or other home improvements, contact the Douglas County Zoning Office for a land use permit. The Town of Maple does not issue building permits at this time. All new 1 and 2 family residences must be inspected for compliance with the Uniform Dwelling Code by Inspector Rob LLC, our building inspector.
If you are installing a driveway, please be sure to submit a driveway permit. The permit can be found on the town website or by contacting the town clerk.
FIREWORKS PERMITS
Wisconsin law requires all residents and non-residents shooting off fireworks – e.g. anything big – to get a permit from the municipality. Wis. Stat. § 167.10(1) provides the definition as to what items are and are not considered to be “fireworks”. Certain items such as sparklers, toy snakes, and confetti poppers are excluded from the state definition. A commonly used rule of thumb is that a permit is required under state law if the device explodes or leaves the ground. The Town of Maple issues the permit free of charge and the form can be found online on the town’s website under “Forms.”
ELECTIONS & ELECTION OFFICIALS
Interested in becoming an election inspector? Please contact the town clerk.
The caucus will be held in January 2025. If you’d like more information about the caucus process or how to run for local office, please contact the clerk.
To register to vote, please contact the clerk or visit MyVoteWisconsin to register online: https://myvote.wi.gov/
COMMUNITY CENTER
The Community Center is available to rent for parties, rummage/craft sales, etc. Forms for requesting the use of the facility can be found on the town’s website or requested by calling the Town Treasurer. The town also requires a cleaning deposit, which is returned to the user provided the space is clean. There is no charge for the use of the Community Center for the funeral lunch of a deceased resident of the Town of Maple, though a damage deposit is required.
The town continues the updating on the bathrooms at the Community Center and retrofitting one with an ADA compliant door and grab bars.
TOWN PARK
The pavilion at the Town Park is available for social gatherings at no cost, though it can’t be reserved; the exception is local youth baseball teams, during the baseball season. Look for the baseball schedule under “Calendars” on the town website.
ATV/SNOWMOBILE ROUTES
All town roads have been opened for ATV / UTV use. Please be mindful of your speed, pedestrians, and other traffic. Remember, the speed limit when passing pedestrians along a town road or the Tri-County Corridor is 10 mph.
